Stephanie believes that every interior should have story. The only way to fill a space with soul is to fill it with narrative. It’s not enough to make interiors functional and beautiful; A good space should spark emotion, invite dialogue, and make people curious to learn more.

This belief about interior design was born from a mix of fine arts training and bootstrapped entrepreneurship. Stephanie attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where she studied Studio Art, with a focus on painting. After graduation, she headed to Chicago, where she worked in the world of fine art galleries and non-profit art centers. After several years exploring and experimenting with the power of art and object, Stephanie launched a textile design brand, Agnes & Hoss, which produced handbags, pillows, scarves, lighting, and a full gift collection. The company manufactured goods both domestically and internationally, and sold through hundreds of stores nationwide including Anthropologie and ABC Home. During this period, Stephanie was named by The Chicago Tribune as one of the "top ten designers to keep an eye on” and was honored by Fashion Group International of New York as a Rising Star. Agnes & Hoss products, as well as her own home, were featured in many design publications including House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, Elle Decoration UK, Instyle and Chicago Magazine.

Driven by a desire to live closer to nature and in the humbling shadows of the Rocky Mountains, Stephanie moved with her husband and son to Boulder, Colorado in 2010. It was at this point, that she decided to transition into interior design. She had become increasingly passionate about how we live in, and navigate, space and was consumed with the belief that people should love the spaces where they live, work and socialize. These interiors should be filled with meaning, emotion and humanity.

In 2013 Stephanie returned to school to earn an MFA in Interior Architecture and Design. Istoria Interior Design is now a full-service firm specializing in both residential and commercial design. We’d love to discuss your next project with you and welcome your call.
